[trapshack] Water Trapping Opens on Saturday (October 31)
Buffalo County Water Trapping Opens October 31!
Tom here and the anticipation mounts as we approach the opening of water trapping this Sat. Oct. 31st! An explosion of smells greet the nose on these cool damp mornings. The scent of fallen leaves, damp earth and the spicy aromas of the backwaters stirs the memories of years of setting traps with good friends. I revel in the thought of sharing this experience with many others this year.
We are busily outfitting Belisle 160′s with Rod Scott’s wooden coni-pans. This set-up looks to be a dynamite way to provide an un-obstructed entrance to an already highly effective trap. Larry Jungwirth’s Coon Catchers coupled with Hawken’s Bucket Bait will be our mainstay on the coon line.
Mink still provide the most excitement for me. I work in the shadows of Sue, the Mink Miss Master, who runs them over with her van. Bill Schlesser, my trapping partner, is the original Mink Master. The pocket set baited with Greg’s Great Coon and Mink Bait will help elevate my status this year.
Sharing our trapping and coon-hunting experiences with others is our goal. Connect with the natural world while you are there and use all your senses to drink in the entire experience. Be thankful for the animals. Honor them by doing a good job with their furs. What an excellent year to tan some of your own pelts to remind us of the beauty of the furs we seek.

Our website happened thanks to our niece and nephew, Marcia and Alan Stellpflug. We are thankful for all their efforts and the 2 years of patience they had before we plunged into web-world. Tom and I are creating a blog that details our adventures that involve backwaters, family, vet world and day-to-day happenings here.
